Donald Trump demands ABC fire Jimmy Kimmel after savage Melania joke

The feud between Donald Trump and late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel has taken a serious turn, with the President of the United States publicly calling for Kimmel's firing not once, but twice over a joke that's sparked a firestorm far beyond the usual political back-and-forth.

The Joke That Started It All

During a recent episode of his ABC show, Kimmel used an AI-generated or digitally altered video that depicted Melania Trump and her son Barron as if they were seated in his studio audience. After the clip played, Kimmel delivered the punchline telling the "audience" version of Melania: "You have a glow like an expectant widow."

The joke, widely interpreted as a dark reference suggesting Melania might be waiting for something to happen to her husband, didn't land well at least not in the White House.

Trump Fires Back on Truth Social

Trump responded with a lengthy, blunt post on Truth Social, describing Kimmel's ratings as "terrible" and the comedian himself as "in no way funny." But beyond the usual jabs, Trump escalated the criticism sharply calling the joke a "despicable call to violence."

He pointed to a disturbing incident that occurred just a day after the broadcast: a man reportedly attempted to enter the White House Correspondents' Dinner armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives. Trump connected the two events directly, calling the man's intentions "very obvious and sinister."

In a follow-up post, Trump kept it short and pointed demanding to know when "ABC Fake News Network" would be firing what he called "seriously unfunny Jimmy Kimmel."

Melania Speaks Out

The First Lady didn't stay silent either. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Melania called Kimmel "hateful" and branded him a "coward" who hides behind the ABC network knowing the channel will protect him from consequences.

She raised a broader concern as well questioning whether it's acceptable for someone she described as spreading hate to have access to millions of American living rooms every evening. Her post ended with a pointed challenge to ABC's leadership, asking how many times the network would continue enabling what she called Kimmel's "atrocious behavior."

What's Next?

ABC has not publicly responded to the calls for Kimmel's termination. Kimmel himself has not addressed Trump's latest demands at the time of writing.

This isn't the first time Trump and Kimmel have clashed the two have had a long-running and very public rivalry. But with Melania now directly entering the conversation and Trump invoking a real-world security threat in connection with the joke, the stakes of this particular dispute feel considerably higher than past exchanges.

Whether ABC takes any action remains to be seen but one thing is clear: this story isn't going away quietly.
