Donald Trump admits he's confused about Melania documentary in live Fox News rant

It started as a White House tribute to military mothers. It ended with President Donald Trump explaining why he kept accidentally calling his wife "Melody" and apologizing for it on national television.

During Wednesday's event, Trump took a moment to celebrate Melania's documentary, which had recently topped Amazon's streaming charts. But instead of a polished shoutout, what viewers got was a candid and somewhat bewildering admission from the leader of the free world.

"It went streaming. It's a different world. I didn't even know what they were talking about," Trump said during the live broadcast. "And it became number one streaming, too."

The clip was quickly shared on X, and the reactions came fast.

"Fill a Book With What Trump Doesn't Know"

Online critics wasted no time. One user wrote that you could "fill a book" with everything Trump is clueless about, sarcastically offering "the corner grocery store" as a starting point. Another simply called him "Dumb Donald," while a more detailed critic pointed out that streaming has been mainstream for roughly two decades and that original content on streaming platforms has existed for about 15 years.

Perhaps the sharpest jab came from someone who connected the dots between Trump's streaming confusion and his broader credibility: "The man who doesn't understand the term streaming wants to educate us all on climate science. Donald Trump is the stupidest man to ever sit in the Oval Office."

Even some Fox News viewers seemed unsettled, with one asking plainly, "When does he know what anyone is talking about?"

The "Melody" Story: A Presidential Autocorrect Disaster

But the streaming comments weren't even the most talked-about part of the speech. Trump then launched into a surprisingly lengthy explanation about why he had repeatedly posted "Melody" instead of "Melania" on his social media platform, Truth Social.

According to Trump, autocorrect on the devices he used to post his "Truths" formerly known as tweets kept changing "Melania" to "Melody" without him noticing. Since he admittedly doesn't proofread before posting, the error slipped through more than once.

"I work very fast, very fast," he explained. "And I would get just absolutely decimated. People would say, 'He didn't know the name of his wife. He keeps calling her Melody.'"

Trump said he was genuinely baffled by the repeated mistake before eventually figuring out the cause. And as for who finally fixed the autocorrect setting? He credited the U.S. military.

"You know who corrected it? The military," he said. "I said, 'Come here. You've got to correct this. You're killing me.'"

An Unusual Ending to a Presidential Address

Trump closed out the digression with an almost sheepish acknowledgment of how far off-track things had gone.

"Anyway, I had to explain it to you this way. I stood up here to explain it to you. I apologize," he told the audience.

Melania, for her part, kept things brief and composed during the event, describing her husband as "empathetic" a word choice that, given the surrounding commentary online, didn't go unnoticed by social media users either.

Whether you find the moment funny, concerning, or simply odd, one thing is certain: it gave the internet exactly what it loves — a story that writes itself.
