The upcoming Walter Reed appointment is being framed by the White House as standard preventive care nothing unusual, nothing to read into. But given how frequently Trump has been examined since resuming the presidency, and given what's been circulating on social media lately, few people seem to be taking that framing at face value.
His previous physical, conducted last April, was thorough by any measure. Captain Barbabella's report stated that the President showed "robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function." It was a clean bill of health, at least on paper. Yet the questions haven't gone away.
The Photo That Sparked the Latest Wave of Rumours
What reignited public chatter this time was a photograph taken during Trump's appearance on a 60 Minutes interview following the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Sharp-eyed viewers noticed what appeared to be an unusual bulge beneath the back of his suit trousers.
Singer and songwriter Bill Madden was among the first to draw attention to it publicly, posting on X: "Trump, sitting during his 60 Minutes interview shows not only how morbidly obese he has become, but that he wears a very thick adult diaper," alongside the image in question. The post spread quickly, racking up thousands of shares and comments.
To be clear the image alone proves nothing. A bulge in a suit jacket can be caused by any number of things, from tailoring issues to phone holsters to back braces. But it fed into a much older story that has followed Trump for years.
The Noel Casler Claims
Much of the speculation traces back to Noel Casler, a former production staffer who worked on The Celebrity Apprentice for six seasons. Casler has been publicly making claims about Trump's personal habits for years, and adult nappy use is among the most repeated of those allegations.
In a 2020 interview with MediasTouch, Casler said: "He's worn diapers since probably the 90s, but I saw it first-hand in the 2000s on The Celebrity Apprentice in the late 2000s and we've had to stop the show and change him."
These are serious and highly personal claims and it's important to note they remain entirely unverified. No corroborating evidence has ever been produced, and Trump's team has never formally addressed them. Casler has faced his own scrutiny over the years, and his motivations have been questioned by Trump supporters who dismiss him entirely.
What's Actually on the Medical Agenda
Beyond the physical at Walter Reed, Trump is also due for a dental examination later in May. That visit follows two recent trips to a private dentist near his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, where he regularly spends his weekends.
Neither appointment is unusual in isolation. Presidents undergo regular medical and dental check-ups it's part of the job, and transparency around presidential health has been standard practice for decades.
But in Trump's case, every medical visit seems to arrive against a backdrop of heightened public scrutiny. Whether that's fair or not is a separate debate. What's certain is that his May 26 appointment will be watched closely and whatever the results say, it's unlikely to end the conversation.
