Fox News fans ask 'what planet are you on' as Melania praises 'orange' Donald Trump

It was meant to be a feel-good Mother's Day moment the First Lady speaking out about safety, security, and her husband's vision for a better America. Instead, Melania Trump's Sunday morning interview with Fox News turned into one of the most talked-about social media flashpoints of the week, and not in a flattering way.

What Melania Said

Appearing on Mornings with Maria Bartiromo, the 56-year-old First Lady addressed several topics before steering toward women's safety. She expressed what sounded like a hopeful vision, saying that President Donald Trump wants a nation where no one lives in fear where women aren't raped, people aren't murdered, and harassment on the streets becomes a thing of the past.

She also brought up immigration, saying, "What happened a few years ago, so many criminals came over the border, and he closed the border now, a while back already, and we need to take care of our citizens."

For context, on January 20, 2025 the first day of Trump's second term the administration rolled out four sweeping executive actions targeting the U.S.-Mexico border. Taken together, those orders effectively shut the southern border to migrants, including asylum seekers and those requesting humanitarian protection. The measures also revived several policies from Trump's first administration and brought U.S. military resources into the border enforcement effort.

The Internet Was Not Having It

The moment the clip hit X (formerly Twitter), viewers wasted no time firing back. The responses ranged from sharp political criticism to deeply personal rebuttals rooted in Trump's own legal history.

One user wrote bluntly: "What planet are you on, Melania? Your Orange T-rd is doing everything opposite of what you're saying."

Another kept it short and cutting: "I don't have a single minute of time to waste listening to ANYTHING Melania Trump has to say."

A third commenter went further, alluding to the civil legal cases involving the president: "She best not talk about what Trump wants for women. Let's say he has been known to take advantage of people unable to fight back."

The Legal Record Some Viewers Brought Up

While Donald Trump has not faced criminal conviction on any sexual misconduct charges, his legal record on the issue is complicated. In May 2023, a federal civil jury in New York found him liable for sexual abuse and defamation in a case brought by writer E. Jean Carroll. Judge Lewis Kaplan later noted that the jury's finding aligned with the standard definition of rape under common understanding. Trump was ordered to pay around $5 million in damages.

A follow-up defamation case in January 2024 resulted in an additional $83.3 million judgment against him a ruling that was upheld by a federal appeals court in September 2025. Trump has consistently denied all allegations, maintaining he didn't know Carroll and that the accusations were entirely fabricated.

Critics online also resurfaced the infamous 2005 Access Hollywood recording, which became public in October 2016. In it, Trump was heard making explicit comments about women, including a boast that fame gave him license to grab women without consent. He later called the remarks "locker room talk" and issued an apology.

More Jabs Including at the White House Ballroom

Beyond the Carroll cases, some users took aim at other recent controversies surrounding the Trump administration. One person sarcastically referenced the president's reported plans for a lavish new ballroom and a fluorescent blue reflecting pool at the White House, writing: "I'm sure his BILLION DOLLAR BALLROOM and FLUORESCENT BLUE REFLECTING POOL will do lots toward making America safe again. #StupidWordsFromTheWorstLady."

Others were even more direct. One commenter flatly declared that Trump "has done nothing for women's rights he has only taken away." Another took a swipe at Melania herself, suggesting that her rare public appearances may not be doing her any favors: "It's probably a good thing that Melania Trump doesn't say much in public because every time she opens her mouth, she looks like an amateur at the comedy club."

The Bigger Picture

Whether one agrees with her politics or not, Melania Trump stepped into a minefield on Mother's Day. Talking about women's safety while standing next to the legacy of her husband's legal and public record on the issue was always going to invite scrutiny. The reaction online made that very clear.

What was framed as an empowering message ended up becoming a rallying point for critics and another reminder that in today's media landscape, even a holiday morning interview can spiral quickly once it hits social media.
