That dynamic was on full display earlier this week when Dr. Oz was seen physically stepping in to stop RFK Jr. from moving back into his usual spot behind the president.
What a Psychology Expert Thinks Is Going On
Boston University professor William Kahn offered his take on the dynamic in comments to The Irish Star, suggesting the pattern fits a familiar psychological profile. He described what he sees as narcissistic traits, explaining that people with that kind of personality often surround themselves with admirers who reflect back an idealized image of themselves youthful, powerful, attractive. According to Kahn, that mirroring effect is often what keeps such relationships going.
He also touched on comparisons people have drawn between Harp and Trump's daughter, Ivanka a resemblance many online commentators have pointed out, especially given how often Trump has publicly praised his daughter's looks over the years. Kahn stopped short of weighing in on any father-daughter parallel, but noted that if his bond with Harp were ever disrupted, Trump would likely find someone else to fill that role.
As for whether Harp might be leveraging the relationship for her own advancement, Kahn suggested that even if that were happening, it probably isn't a conscious calculation on her part. He framed it as a common, largely unconscious pattern: people with less power gravitating toward those with more, without necessarily being aware they're doing it.

The Letters That Raised Questions
Harp's closeness to Trump isn't a new story it's been building for a while, with critics describing the relationship as unusually intense. Letters she reportedly wrote to Trump around the time of his 2023 Scotland trip resurfaced and drew scrutiny after being reported by The Daily Beast. In them, she reportedly told him she never wanted to bring him anything but joy, apologized for losing focus, and thanked him for being her protector.
Why She's So Loyal
There's a backstory that helps explain her devotion. Harp has credited Trump with saving her life. In 2018, he signed the Right to Try Act, legislation that gave terminally ill patients access to experimental treatments outside of standard clinical trials. Harp, who was battling bone cancer at the time, said the law came through for her after traditional chemotherapy failed and no clinical trial would accept her.
Speaking at the 2020 Republican National Convention, she credited the law and Trump personally with giving her a chance she wouldn't otherwise have had, saying she would have died waiting for treatments to gain approval without it.
