Trump's hand sparks concern at UFC White House event: 'He's rotting from the inside out'

The UFC Freedom 250 event was already generating controversy before a single punch was thrown. Hosting several fights on the South Lawn of the White House raised eyebrows from the start, with many critics arguing that staging a combat sports event on such historically significant ground was inappropriate. But by the time the cameras focused on the President himself, the venue debate had taken a back seat.

Trump, who celebrated his 80th birthday on Sunday, was filmed making his way to a front-row ringside seat. It was the kind of high-profile public moment his supporters enjoy and his critics dissect. This time, both camps found something to talk about.

What People Actually Saw

The footage and images circulating online showed the back of Trump's right hand with a tone that appeared distinctly different from what you'd expect heavily discoloured, with veins standing out prominently beneath the surface. For some, it looked like the result of heavy makeup foundation applied unevenly. For others, it triggered more serious questions about his health.

This wasn't an isolated observation either. Several commentators noted they had spotted similar colouring across a number of Trump's recent public appearances, suggesting this wasn't simply a trick of lighting on one particular night.

Social Media Runs With It

Once the image spread, reactions came fast. Journalist Aaron Rupar put it plainly on X, writing that the back of Trump's hand looked "extremely discolored" at the event. That post alone drew hundreds of responses.

Some users kept it blunt. One wrote that it looked "terrifying." Another offered what they believed was a straightforward explanation, suggesting it was simply makeup foundation. A commenter going by the name Mike Dickson went further, comparing the appearance to someone who had been embalmed, adding the hashtag "CadaverHand" and questioning how a man who looked so unwell was still holding public office.

Others pushed into medical territory. One user speculated that Trump could be taking blood thinners, which are known to cause visible skin bruising and discolouration, and called for transparency about the President's current medications. A handful of responses were far less charitable and ventured into outright mockery.

A Night Already Full of Noise

Even setting aside the hand discussion, the evening wasn't running smoothly. Because the fights were held outdoors on the South Lawn rather than in a controlled indoor arena, the event was always going to be at the mercy of the weather. And the weather didn't cooperate.

With less than two hours to go before the first bout, UFC organisers were forced to push back the schedule after thunderstorms were forecast to roll through the Washington DC area. A UFC spokesperson confirmed to Irish Star Sports that the opening fight was now expected to begin around 9pm ET roughly an hour later than originally planned.

The broadcaster Paramount Plus also adjusted its coverage window, shifting its start time to 8pm, which meant trimming some of the pre-fight programming that had been scheduled.

The Bigger Picture

What made Sunday's event unusual wasn't just the setting or the weather delays it was the combination of everything happening at once. A sitting president turning 80 in a very public way, a combat sports spectacle on the White House lawn, a scheduling scramble due to storms, and a social media firestorm over a single image of a hand.

Whether the discolouration has a mundane explanation like makeup or something worth greater medical scrutiny, it's unlikely to be the last time Trump's physical appearance draws this level of attention. At 80, every public outing is going to be watched closely and in the age of screenshots and social media, nothing goes unnoticed.
