Fox News fans joke MAGA 'have a device' to jolt Donald Trump awake after he falls asleep again

Trump's Apparent Nap at Graham's Funeral Sparks Online Frenzy

It was meant to be a solemn farewell to a longtime Republican statesman, but a brief moment during Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral turned into fresh fodder for internet jokesters aimed at President Trump.

The service, held Tuesday afternoon at Washington National Cathedral, drew a who's-who of political figures and foreign dignitaries to pay their respects to the late senator. Trump sat in an aisle seat in the front row, flanked by Vice President JD Vance and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio seated just behind him. A livestream of the ceremony gave viewers an unobstructed view of the president throughout the proceedings.

At one point during the service, Trump's head appeared to slump forward, his eyes closed, before he abruptly straightened up and opened his eyes again. The brief moment didn't go unnoticed.

"Marco Has the Button"

A clip capturing the moment spread rapidly across X, pulling in more than 740,000 views within a day. The user who posted it offered a tongue-in-cheek theory: that someone had rigged Trump with a device to jolt him back to attention whenever he started drifting off.

"I've become convinced there's a device on him they buzz to lightly jolt him awake," the post read. "Marco has the button, look."

The joke took off because Rubio, seated directly behind the president, appeared to glance in his direction right as Trump's eyes were shut then look away just as Trump sat back up. To many online, the timing was too perfect to ignore.

Replies piled up fast. Some users insisted they could see Rubio "watching" the president like he was waiting for a cue. Others leaned into the bit entirely, with one comment imagining Rubio muttering, "wake up king, we still got 40 minutes of this."

Not the First Time

This isn't the first instance of Trump facing questions about staying alert in public settings. The 80-year-old president has repeatedly drawn attention for what critics describe as heavy eyelids or brief moments of dozing during meetings, summits, and televised events.

Back in January 2026, Trump addressed one such episode directly, brushing off suggestions that he'd fallen asleep during a meeting he admitted was dull. "It was a little bit on the boring side," he said, insisting, "I didn't sleep. I just closed them because I wanted to get the hell out of there." He added that photographers had simply caught him "at the closed segment" of his blink cycle.

Polling Shows Growing Public Doubt

The funeral moment lands amid broader public skepticism about the president's health and stamina. A Quinnipiac University poll released in June found that 59% of voters believe the White House isn't being upfront about Trump's health. A more recent CNN poll conducted by SSRS found an even larger share 57% of Americans questioning whether Trump has the energy and mental sharpness needed to effectively carry out his duties.

Despite the mounting public doubt, Trump and his team continue to push back on any suggestion that his health is in question. His physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, said following a May checkup at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center that the president remains "fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State."

Whether or not the "device" jokes were meant seriously, the viral moment underscores just how closely the public and social media are watching the president's every gesture, blink, and nod.
