It's not the first time questions have been raised about Donald Trump's health, and this week's viral moment has made sure it won't be the last anytime soon. A short video clip from Monday's Small Business Summit at the White House has set off another round of debate about whether the 78-year-old president is physically up to the demands of the job.
In the footage, Trump is seen standing quietly beside Kelly Loeffler, the head of the US Small Business Administration, while she speaks at the podium. His eyes appear heavy, his expression vacant enough for multiple viewers to claim he was either dozing off or simply struggling to stay alert on his feet. The moment was clipped and shared by Aaron Rupar, a well-known political content creator on X, and it spread fast.
The Internet Weighed In Hard
Online reaction ranged from sarcastic to seriously concerned. "Three more years of this imagine how the US would look in 2028," one user wrote. Another quipped that he looked bored and would clearly prefer to be on the fairway. One commenter didn't mince words at all, simply asking who falls asleep while standing up. Others took a darker tone, suggesting that a person his age, in his apparent condition, had no business being in the Oval Office.
Beyond the eye-drooping moment, several commenters zeroed in on Trump's hands. Bruising has been visible on them on multiple past occasions, and this time around, one user noted what appeared to be makeup applied to both hands a detail that only added more fuel to the speculation.
Trump and His Team Have Consistently Pushed Back
None of this is new territory. Scrutiny over Trump's health has followed him throughout his political career, and his response has always been the same a firm denial backed by medical claims.
At the start of 2026, Trump took to Truth Social to announce that White House doctors had declared him in "perfect health." He also boasted in his trademark all-caps style that he had passed a cognitive examination with a perfect score for the third time in a row, claiming no other president or former vice president had even been willing to take such a test.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt backed him up, telling reporters that the results of Trump's most recent MRI came back "perfectly normal." She was responding directly to mounting pressure from Democratic lawmakers who have continued to push for more transparency around the president's medical condition.
Trump himself has previously rejected suggestions that he could be experiencing cognitive decline, stating he has "aced" every test put in front of him and categorically denied any link to conditions like Alzheimer's disease.
A Lockdown in the Background
What made Monday's event even more unusual was what was happening just outside the White House at the same time. While Trump stood at the summit inside, the wider White House complex was placed on lockdown following a security incident near the Washington Monument.
The US Secret Service confirmed that one of its officers had been involved in a shooting after a confrontation with an armed individual in the area. One person was shot by law enforcement, though officials had not confirmed that person's condition at the time of reporting. Journalists present at the White House were moved indoors as a precautionary measure while the security situation was being handled.
Despite all of that unfolding just outside, President Trump continued with his scheduled event inside the building without any visible interruption which, depending on who you ask, was either a sign of composure or just another surreal moment in an already turbulent presidency.
